SUMMARY

You were imperfect long before living with MS. It's a human condition. Jen DeTracey shares with you about the first time she realized she was imperfect. Then, Jen takes you there a simple exercise so you can experience how you are imperfectly, perfect!

MS Life - Perfection is Overrated

The truth is that perfection is overrated.

I'm Jen DeTracey. I am the founder of Women Thriving with MS. I helping and guide women to go from surviving with MS, to striving with MS, to thriving with MS by connecting with other women in the MS Community, as well as discovering how to thrive.

I do this through Women Thriving with MS coaching, online programs, membership, a free Facebook group, and YouTube channel. I've been living with MS for over 11 years now. Today I'm a little snotty. I showed up anyway, because I'm talking about how perfection is overrated.

A long time ago, I realized how we as human beings are all imperfectly, perfect.

Everyone is.

I want you to think back to before you were diagnosed with MS. Before you had MS symptoms, way back. Maybe it was a month ago, maybe it was 20 years ago or 30 years ago.  I want you to remember life before MS, a time where you felt that you were imperfect.

Why would I ask you this?

Well, because it's not MS that made you imperfect. No way. You're still a whole human being.

We had issues around feeling imperfect long before being diagnosed with MS. When you connect with your past, you'll go, oh yeah. I remember.

I remember some hard times long before MS. I remember the struggles. I remember that things were not perfect. I remember that I wasn't perfect. When you can lock into that, then you realize it's not directly connected with living with MS. Wow.

Today I was recording a Facebook live outside (in the Women Thriving with MS (and Fatigue free private Facebook group). I wanted to be out in the sun for a few minutes. There were the sounds of people.

There was an airplane flying by that became really loud. It's almost impossible for me to find a perfect environment to shoot a video. There's always going to be some kind of background noise. Maybe you can't hear it, but I can. I've given up worrying about it because I know that perfection is overrated.

Today, I was going to shoot this video earlier in the day. It's a holiday here, my neighbors who live upstairs were doing their laundry. I could hear their machine. I thought, oh, darn, I can't shoot the video now. Perfection's overrate it.

So I want you to think about your own life and where you started to notice in your life that you didn't feel that you were perfect. Or that maybe you felt that there were imperfections showing up and recognize that that's a human condition.

My Mom told me at the age of five that I had some kind of learning disability. that I was having difficulty reading.

At about 10 years old, I was diagnosed with dyslexia. When that happened at five, that sent a message to me that something's a little different about me. At the time it sat hard in my heart. When I was diagnosed with dyslexia, it sat hard in my heart.

The fact is that we all have something.

We all have some area of our life where maybe we're not a rockstar. Everybody has that. Everybody in the world has that. They have many things.

That's what makes us so magical in a way.

Because we can offset other people in their strengths and weaknesses. Whether it's in your home environment or whether it's out in the world, depending on what your life situation is.

You all bring something beautiful and shiny and special to this planet.

I want you to remember that.

So in this place of not feeling perfect, remember that all human beings are imperfectly perfect. And perfection is overrated.
